"ซูฟีไม่ใช่นิกาย ซูฟีมีรากศัพท์ดั้งเดิมที่หมายถึงมุสลิมผู้ใส่ผ้าขนสัตว์ในยุคโบราณ 
แต่ถ้าจะแปลในบริบทศาสนาก็หมายถึงมุสลิมที่บรรลุความรู้ใน Tasawwuf อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ 

'นักบวชอิสลาม' มีรากฐานจากซูฟี การบวชอิสลามที่แท้จริงไม่ใช่เพียงการถือศีลอดอาหาร แต่ต้องรู้จักการ Tasawwuf และ 'Zuhd' (บำเพ็ญตบะ) บวกกับหมั่น 'Dhikr' (การเอ่ยนามพระผู้เป็นเจ้า) 
และสามารถเข้าฌานบรรลุ 'Haqiqåt' (ความรู้ลึกลับจากพระเจ้า)

นักบวชอิสลามในภาษาอังกฤษคือ 'Islamic cleric' อิสลามมีนักบวชที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้นำจิตวิญญาณ เทศนา และตัดสินข้อเท็จจริงตามหลักกฎหมายอิสลาม 

ส่วนคนที่ไม่เข้าใจรากฐานการบวชอิสลาม บางคนอาจบอกว่าอิสลามไม่มีนักบวช ซึ่งไม่ถูกต้องเพราะไม่เข้าใจแก่นแท้ของการบวชอิสลามที่แท้จริง"
